Responding to COVID-19

In the fall of 2020, the Anacostia Coordinating Council (ACC) partnered with Bluerock Care to keep communities East of the River safe. Supported by the 2020 DC HOPE Community Grant & the Anacostia Park and Community Collaborative, we have reached out to communities throughout Ward 7 and 8 to provide free COVID testing, free masks, hand sanitizer, and gloves.

Bluerock Care continues to reach out to communities, especially senior residences East of the River in Washington DC and in Prince George’s County, MD.

Can I get vaccinated at Bluerock Care?

Similar to many other primary care providers, Bluerock Care does not yet have access to the Covid-19 vaccine for our patients. Please check here for access to the vaccine for DC residents, and here for Prince George’s County residents.

Am I at risk?

Older adults and people with underlying chronic medical conditions (including heart conditions, respiratory diseases, and diabetes) are at higher risk.

What should I do to protect myself and others?

Although DC has lifted the Stay-at-Home order, the virus is still around. Especially older adults and/or people with chronic conditions need to be vigilant and avoid exposure to others. Staying at home is still the best way to protect yourself. If you need to leave home to get food or essential supplies, or connect with friends and family, stay at least 6 feet away from others, and wear a mask at all times. Avoid meeting people indoors: the risk of infection is much lower when meeting people outdoors. Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds multiple times a day. An alcohol-based hand sanitizer (e.g. Purell) can be used if soap and water are not available. Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

If you need healthcare and have a doctor, call your doctor. If you don’t have or can’t access a primary care doctor, call us at (202) 796-9775.

What are the symptoms of COVID-19?

Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, coughing, shortness of breath, and in more severe cases, pneumonia (infection in the lungs).

What should I do If I think I have COVID-19 symptoms?

Call your doctor or call us at (202) 796-9775. If you experience severe symptoms and you can’t reach us or your doctor, call 911.

Where can I find help getting food and other services?
